Dawn - clearly you would like a party political discussion. The LibDem Group on Hounslow Council put forward a proposal for a small increase in Council Tax for the current year. This - had the proposal been taken up by the Conservatives in power last year - would have obviated the need for some of the current cuts. I have no idea about the particular computer system. What I do know is that eventually computer systems that are not replaced become obsolete and become the cause of all systems breaking down. I am completely against the withdrawal of powers from local government started by Blair and continued by Cameron. This nonsense started by Cameron of direct control by volunteers in the community just won't work - like the Big Society. Volunteers only have so much time and enery. Voluntary organisations need a certain amount of state funding to carry out the range of tasks they have done up till now. This is being withdrawn. I think, as a LibDem that the coalition is making many grave mistakes - not least supporting the expenditure on war in Afghanistan commenced by war monger Blair. The money saved there would pay for a great deal here.A plague on both your houses is what I say! |
