My own experience as a school librarian years ago, taught me that library premises used also for other purposes usually compromises the effectiveness and reliability of the library service and its priorities. It would not be practical to run the two in tandem except perhaps in the lovely upstairs room which already has tenants. The actual library space at Brentford is not large - allowing for children separately as well as adult fiction and information books -with PCs too. Whilst glad to hear you were not advocating receptions - consequently my earlier comment about wine and cake - I still feel this is not to be desired. Locally we already have Syon House and at one time I think - not sure now - Boston Manor House. In a recession the market will be cut back. The official place of course is the Registrars Office in Lampton Road.I do wonder, without catering, whether the income would in any case be viable. I want to retain our local library service in Brentford - not only the building! |
