I certainly don't want libraries to close but they are fairly pointless places when they have little or nothing in them. I live right opposite Brentford Library and can't remember the last time I bothered to go in. The place is tiny anyway and half the shelves were empty. I ordered a couple of books that never appeared. I know it's easy to moan but really, if Brentford is anything to go by they have been underfunded for years. The actual building in Brentford looks quite substantial but what if anything goes on upstairs? They only use two rooms downstairs and as I said they have little in them. I have noticed on more than one occasion that the lights are left on the library for days and nights on end. Is that security or waste of resources. I often wonder what their electricity bill must be. All that said, I hope libraries can be saved and improved rather than just existing for the sake of it. |
