This news is brilliant. However, for a library to remain "alive" it needs to have a continuous flow of new professionally selected and processed books. This may sound stuffy but as a librarian of many years experience I insist this is true. A collection needs balance reflecting its particular user group. It needs refreshing or people say they've read what interests them from the stock. Books must be catalogued and classified so that they may be identified and retrieved by would-be users. The building, presumably staff, and a load of old books is not enough! The Read-in continues at Brentford noon 5th Feb! |
