I would have thought that most people would understand the dilemma of being a local resident and a local councillor. Ruth as Deputy Leader of the Council could not come on to any local forum and give her personal view no matter how much she might want to. First of all these are, at the moment, proposals, secondly she could not just look at what the impact might be on Brentford alone, there are other parts of the borough who will also have their own views, and which all councillors will have to take into consideration. As an individual with a young family I dare say Ruth would love to make Brentford library a top priority, but life isn't like that in her position. All this talk saying the council "wants" to shut libraries is nonsense - no they don't, these are the decisions they are having to consider because of the government's cuts. The problem for all of us is that if some extremely difficult decisions aren't made or alternatives to the proposed cuts cannot be identified this year - then we will see a repeat of all of this next year, unless of course Nasty Nick and his spineless, gutless followers fall out with Dodgy Dave and we have a general election, we can but hope. |
