| I did mention in my original post that I lived in the USA, our library is not nearly as grand as the Brentford building. The town has only 2000 residents, many visitors in the summer, swell the population. When we first visited the library 20 years ago it was very small hardly room to swing a cat round, since then it has grown considerably has separate meeting rooms, children's section and at least 6 computers available for public use. Am not sure where all the funds come from but I do know that we all pay for the library in our local taxes. We also have generous business people who donate. We also pay a rental fee for new books. Oregonians love to read, must be the wet winters! |
