Dawn - You seem to misunderstand what people say. The work at Isleworth is all part and parcel of the same contract - a 'Leisure Campus'. This combines and connects under one roof now, the gym, library, pool and I think a cafe (I don't know if this is finished)this all backs on to Redlees Park. Phil Andrews may be able to shed some light on the decision as he was on the council at the time this was started, and I doubt he had a crystal ball with him at the time - again I say people can only base decisions on expenditure on the information they have at that time. On the face of it at the time this was a very good idea, designed to encourage people to get active and meet up in the cafe afterwards and to give the library a refurb. Absolutely nothing wrong with any of that. Yes, work did overrun I have no idea why. Whether a gym is a luxury is another matter, a lot of people would argue that it isn't, private gyms cost a small fortune and the idea is to save the NHS money if we all get fitter, being someone who really would rather sit and lose myself in a book than do exercise (I must force myself)- I love my libraries but I respect that other people would rather spend their leisure time swimming or getting fit on a treadmill, and who are we to say that's wrong, or of far less importance? The library actually re-opened just a couple of weeks ago. |
