I'm not sure I would oppose the idea of a temporary cafe to increase footfall in Redlees Park. I was once impressed by the story of a small inner city park in Zurich which had a big problem with drug pushers and street violence. Rather than install CCTV and employ additional security personnel, the city built a small kids playground and found a young, energetic couple who wanted to run a cafe. The entrepreneurs worked hard and were tremendously enthusiastic ; word of mouth spread how good and welcoming the cafe was. The park and the cafe filled up. The drug pushers didn't like the crowd who were now in the park and went away. Problem solved. I'm am sceptical of the idea of a Hounslow top-down-driven event in Redlees Park.I'd much sooner that Hounslow was more responsive to the ideas of the local community. It still is a great shame that Brentford Festival was made so unwelcome at Boston Manor Park that they had to beg hospitality from Ealing and use Blondin Park. |
