I don't know whether Ed is applying the time-honoured Labour divide and rule tactic here by attempting to pitch resident against resident, or whether it is just a case of wishful thinking that public anger is being directed at the horse owner rather than himself and his colleagues but either way it is, as you say, disingenuous. My understanding is that, according to the councillors, the lease on the park could not be terminated more quickly than it has because the horse owner has not actually done anything wrong. I would suggest that the same principle must surely apply to the now proposed termination of the lease after twelve months. This girl will have incurred expenses and made arrangements on the basis of promises made by the Council which, due to its failure to discharge its statutory duty to consult, it was subsequently not in a position to deliver. If I was her I would be seeing a lawyer. |
