Whew! That really is hitting the nail on the head. The only comfort you can derive from that is that at least we can know with certainty we are not the only ones being given the bum's rush by Hounslow. What an absolutely appalling state of affairs, what of course isn't clear is why elected members have been so acquiescent in giving their right to governance away to paid officers. Why stand for election if you cannot or will not make the difficult decisions that you may face? I have to say that throughout the sorry saga of the horses, members have been gutless to an incredible degree, and instead of action all you get is buck passing and feeble excuses for not doing what we elected them to do, namely, represent us. There seems to be absolutely no point at all in wasting money on elections, never mind all those juicy allowances, we might just as well do away with councillors altogether and just take our chances if this is the case. What is really puzzling is why they persist with this fantasy of "Citizen Engagement" at all! Do they think we won't notice that this is all flim-flam? Fancy words are no substitute for some action. Where on earth does this leave all of us? |
