Which is why I am so interested in the fact that this authority is committing some £70k per year to taking on these two officers. It's not that I oppose the idea in principle - quite the reverse - but that it seems counter intuitive considering the administration's approach to the whole concept. As I see it there are two possible explanations. One is that there is a faction within the administration that is genuinely trying to promote resident engagement. It could be that that faction, whilst not being the controlling faction, has enough of a foot in the door to be able to engage staff who will help consolidate their strategy within the administration. The other is that the leadership is simply taunting us, creating jobs for a couple of its mates and thinking up the most unlikely and ironic titles it can just for a giggle. Like a Tory Minister for Poverty or something similar. Who knows which it is? All I can say is that if it is the former whoever is involved has their work cut out. |
