Even better, knock on the doors of those houses where there is no evidence of recycling of any kind and never has been. This would best be done on collection day - houses may also be identified by the existence of recycling boxes still stacked as they were on the day of delivery. Also, there are a number of houses in the area which have a collection of food boxes etc - these are obviously not used as there are more than required (or used) and are generally scattered about the place and do nothing for the overall appearance of the streets. I once asked whether people could dump boxes surplus to requirements in a park on a given date for collection but the reply from the Council was that this would encourage fly-tipping. Fair enough but the Council also needs to take responsibility for having created a lot of this plastic overload. |
