If only everybody was bothered. I have three houses within the immediate vicinity of my house, none of which appear to recycle. At two of these houses the recycling boxes have remained one inside the other since delivery and at the other there is no sign of them. There has never been a waste food box in sight so go figure. Some recycling may be done at public centres but I rather doubt it. On top of this, two of the wheelie bins allocated to these people are left permanently on the pavement which is against Council guidance and also present an eyesore/trip hazard. It is a pity that the waste operatives do not have time to look inside the bags placed in these and other such bins to see whether there is recyclable material in them and, if finding any, to slap a 'contaminated' sticker on them. It makes no sense (and is somewhat annoying) that somebody who is trying to do the right thing but who puts an 'incorrect' item into a box should get a sticker and yet serial non-recylcers get away with it year after year right under the nose of others who strive to do the right thing. |
