Yes Ruth, That is fine if you are fit and able. Or indeed if you do not have to carry and more than a briefcase or laptop to work. But many of us carry our work equipment, protective clothing, tools and necessities to enable our occupations. But what if you are a hospital patient? Many treatments require an 'Escort' ( their word not mine) to be allowed home. Whilst most local hospitals suggest using Public Transport for appointments, Clinicians not authorise one to go home unless someone can drive you or accompany you and they do not advise public transport after treatment. I regularly drive 2 neighbours to their appointments at West Mid because it is the only way get them there safely and not time. I used to accompany one by 267 but the delays risk missing the appointments. Even consultants who bus it from Charing Cross are regularly up to an hour late because of the delays to public transport. So fine if you can walk or use a push bike but for most going to a hospital, it is more than likely that the reason for being at the hospital makes those options a pipe dream. |
