I'd agree too, and indeed if we go back far enough on this forum you'll read posts from me complaining about the madness of the mini-roundabout when it was installed. But I can't agree that there wasn't lots of congestion before the Church Street closure. You and I have discussed this before Steve but pre-Church Street I commuted every day to/from either Teddington or Chertsey, more often than not by car. And it was always the same, if I was in the car I'd set up Google Maps on my phone to tell me the quickest route based on live traffic information, and if it told me to come back via the A316 it would never tell me to go either up Twickenham Road or St. Margarets Road and would always show the red 'heavy congestion' indication on those roads. Indeed, after the mini-roundabout was put in I'd often see the queues northbound either actually or almost tailing back to the A316 roundabout as I carried on along the A316 towards Richmond. Hence whilst I'll always say it is worse now, I'd never suggest there wasn't an issue before, because Twickenham Road, especially northbound in the afternoon rush-hour, has been bad for years, long before the closure of Church Street. |
