“Hence whilst I'll always say it is worse now, I'd never suggest there wasn't an issue before, because Twickenham Road, especially northbound in the afternoon rush-hour, has been bad for years, long before the closure of Church Street.” Well – as I said this doesn’t really agree with my wife’s experiences from before the Church Street closure but then again she didn’t use the road in Rush hour evenings. I used it regularly some 10 years ago from near the Crown Pub in St Margarets / Twickenham to take a couple of girls to the Green School – if I recall I had to get them there by 8.30 every morning and it used to be absolute plain sailing from the A316 right up to past West Middx hospital. I recall sometimes some congestion where Park Road meets Twickenham Road because those using Church Street as a through road from Isleworth would be trying to ease into Twickenham Road there. Inevitably the girls would hop out there and walk the last 200 metres or so to the Green School. I don’t ever recall any delays or stress or panic from the girls thinking they would be late for school. These days it would be quicker to walk from the A316 and breathe in all the diesel fumes. |
