It is clear and has been for some time that a comprehensive traffic review is needed from the A4 at Gillette Corner right down to the A316 with the junction at Twickenham Rd. Church St. closing was a big aggravating factor of that there can be no argument. True Twickenham Rd. could get busy, but now it is horrendous at times when it would normally have been relatively free flowing. The latest idea - to have 'mini roundabouts on steroids' at Twickenham/Worton Rd. and Twickenham/Mogden junctions is just another example of piecemeal traffic control. It simply does not work, as you tackle one small problem another pops up somewhere else. With the constant pressure for development - the latest from the Duke of Northumberland and another school right on Busch Corner feeding into the mix, it hardly requires a genius to work out how that will add to the traffic numbers. But the question is who is listening to local people? Certainly not our councillors, who for some reason think the needs of a few well-heeled bods overtakes the comfort and safety of the majority of residents and local schools and hospital. |
