If a CPZ was in streets like Clifden Road, it would be fine. A large part of it has off street parking so two car households are in a win win situation. and as there are dropped kerbs there would be no need for passing point restrictions and all the other stuff that LBH planners have incorporated. So it would work just like in Northfields. But take a look at CPZs in districts that are mainly terraced houses with no off street parking and are narrower. They work OK by day, streets devoid of cars. But even the ones with late hours change in the evening, it is often impossible to park. Just as it was before a CPZ. This is exactly what we used to live in in North London and it was dreadful. Permits went from £65 to £95 and parking till 20.30. If you were not home by the end of the school run at 4.30 you simply did not get a space. The zone lost a lot of spaces and it was difficult to park before but it was near impossible afterwards. There were regular punch ups in streets and cars were often vandalised by angry residents who saw others as hogging spaces. It's why we moved. If it happens here, it needs to be with absolute guarantees and as flexible as possible. |
