And yet our driving standards are still better than in many developed countries. Does not mean we should be complacent. The trouble is that standards have declined sharply cars are safer but accidents more common. The root is that the focus has been shifted to fines by stealth on soft easy targets, speed cameras, parking offences and yellow box infringements. All of these can catch out a driver of any standard and do not reflect circumstances and do not identify consistent poor driving ability. This is something that traffic police could do effectively and with evaluative diligence Only traffic light cameras have made a significant change in safety. It's become like so many things here , all emphasis is on money and does nothing to enhance the general standard of driving. |
