Raymond I might once have agreed with you about creating ‘stop off and pick up points’ for schools but the way forward is to simply make it wrong to do this, and if you have to take a car, you have to park away from the hectic ‘danger zone’ near to the school. The best example I have seen is St Mary’s by the clock tower in Isleworth. A car park was dedicated to allow parking for the area outside the school and shops - the Council took the existing car park, knocked down the garages built for the flats at Wisdom court and made it pay and display. This has seemingly allowed more traffic to use the area, not to allow reasonable use with the over flow going elsewhere. I went past on the road the other day, at a time I would normally avoid because of the pickup drivers, and the car park was stuffed right out into the main road. Giving some room for parking seems to have given permission for everyone to park and jam themselves in regardless of other pavement and road users. View Larger Map |
