I do agree with most of what's been mentioned. But with reservations. Even a 1 hour blanket CPZ ( which would be better than the current Nimby fiasco) would have a detrimental effect on the elderly in the area. And there are quite a few. Permits should be free for the over 70's and visitor permits free for the over 70's as well. It costs nothing really - only lost perceived revenue by the contractors. The permits should be low cost after all, the parking problem will remain the same at night as it will be residents in the main and all will be entitled to permits. A long and large vehicle ban as in Ealing in residential streets. Based on wheelbase and axle tonneage ( I believe this already exists from GLC days but is not enforced) A written in stone undertaking that this will not and cannot be used as a cash cow, and once instigated, lead to the huge and unreasonable hikes in permits and visitor permits which has caused great anxiety amongst the less affluent and elderly in Ealing to name just on e authority in which this has happened. This is after all a problem with commuters not with residents. At night it is a different issue and not so easy to solve. |
