That's a unique problem to those handful of streets ( like New Road that is narrow for both road and pedestrian users. But in a perfect world, anyone living here with an inch of common sense would not buy a huge car unless it's a work/domestic utility. Trouble is cars (even small cars are over a third bigger than they used to be. The new mini which barely has any more space than the old one is massive by comparison, but it's all about world homogenisation of vehicles and safety standards. Not much can be done about that but large long wheelbase and oversized 4x4 should pay triple for permits to represent the space they use up. But how ironic is it that the well known champagne socialists whose huge 4x4s adorn Hamilton Road, get a CPZ to suit them. they just don't care. Which is indicative of most driving around in huge all terrain vehicles. Probably the only thing I would agree with Ken Livingstone on, unless it's for rugged work, wholly unsuitable for London. |
