I still find it amazing that people can request council tax money to allow them to help park their cars. Surely it is up to people to decide if they can park, how and where they can park, and if they really insist on parking outside their property, then do this at their own expense by buying property with its own off street parking. I personally would ask that any tax payer money is spent for the greater good. Blocking dangerous parking and managing speeds to protect pedestrians, cyclists and children on the walk to school routes, is the limit to Council commitment surely. The Syon Lane maisonettes are blocks of 4 with two beds and attic space. Some use the dining area upstairs to make a third bed. The downstairs have a front garden and the upstairs a back garden, and often the side garden too. They were built with a run of garages away from the maisonettes and over the years the garages down by the station have looked like they have been bought for investment as there is very little activity in the garages and all the private parking spaces in front of them are not used. Maybe as empty housing can be forced into use, garages should also have the same rules applied to them. |
