One of the things that is not so easy for those who avoid taxes to wriggle out of is National Insurance. This is quite low compared to other countries. No British politician of any party will dare to suggest increasing it. Yet this could help massively towards social care, pensions and some aspects of the NHS. As for no Council Tax increases. There have been a raft of them by stealth. CPZs will end up being very costly when they are not supposed to be revenue raising in the first instance. Not that the Tories remind anyone of that or that it was a UK labour Govet that deemed them as a "local service not a revenue service" Ed Balls 1998 and 2006, I believe. |
