| What about the state of the pavements? How many people end up in hospital or debilitated because not enough money has been spent on them? What about the knock-on effect of this on the NHS and people's lives? Or because Councils are being squeezed by cuts of Government grants and are in turn having to make cuts (as they have in staff and services) despite the political strapline of not having done so? Some Governments believe that everything is cheaper for the tax payer when it is contracted out but then both Government and Council seem to forget that if you contract a service out there has to be a very good contract negotiated and that there still has to be monitoring of that service. So it may not be such a big saving after all. |
