| There was a fictional County Council on Irish telly in the 70s called Ballymagash. It became a byword for all that is pompous, self-serving and shambolic about rural Irish politics. I thought that Ballymagash-style councils were a uniquely Irish phenomenon, until I spent three of the longest hours of my life at last week's area forum and saw that Ballymagash is alive and well and happening in Brentford! |
