| At the same meeting, councillors voted in favour of extending CPZ in the North Brentford area to include Saturdays. This is in spite of the fact that, in a 6-month review of the scheme, the majority of residents voted 'Yes' to the question "Do you think the current operational times of the zone are sufficient?" (36 yes votes to 28 against.) The justification by the council for this extension is that it will protect the streets from football traffic on Saturday afternoons, ignoring the fact that this is not generally a major problem. The GSK commuter parking is a far bigger issue. Streets not currently included within the CPZ - Whitestile Road, Windmill and the nearby Ealing streets - can expect even greater pressure on parking spaces, extending into the weekend. But I don't think the council really cares about that. They are happy to get the extra revenue from the stealth charges that will be imposed on residents within the existing zone for the Saturday extension. Hard not to be cynical about this so-called 'democratic' process really!!! |
