But they're not talking about redeveloping a vacant commercial site. They're talking about turning a number of used garages that take parking off the streets into, allegedly, affordable housing which will impact on the significant parking congestion we already experience. The Council has been, unsuccessfully, attempting to implement a CPZ round this area for a number of years now. When the last attempt failed they decided to slap double yellow lines on every corner despite these not being required for the last 50 years and now they want to demolish garages. This is nothing to do with affordable housing or helping the needy, this smacks of an agenda. If the Council were serious about affordable housing, they would negotiate better percentages in the new developments, purchase and develop these derelict eyesores or get Hounslow Homes to get their act together. The roads concerned are small, Victorian roads and there is a tiny open space and this is what they want to build on. I would also venture that any proposed housing would not be aesthetically in keeping with the surrounding dwellings and will stand out like a sore thumb and therefore impact on the value of existing properties. I beg to differ but this part of Brentford IS full. |
