For the last year or two I have been religiously taking my recycling to the recycling banks. Normally Tescos. Only when I received the notification from the Council to start using the white bags, blue bags, green bins etc did I stop going to the recycling banks. Knowing that the new system failed so miserably but accepting Barbara Reid's apology and the advice that people were working around the clock to rectify matters I specifically asked the Council (by email) if the system was now on track and if I should place my plastics outside yet again. The Council didn't reply so I put them out anyway but they weren't collected (again) . Looking now at the litter-strewn Borough where the wind has blown things all over the place I believe it was in any event a very stupid idea because the majority of people now just couldn't be bothered (unlike myself) to take their recycling inside again. Even if the system worked - there are too many bags which will be left outside (once emptied) and are scattered all over the place. I guess I'll either have to resort to going back to recycling dumps again or put all my plastics in the black bin bags. Not very environmentally friendly I know but to look around the Borough now with all the bags all over place is not pleasant. This Council doesn't seem to understand that a very high percentage of residents simply don't seem to take any pride in their surroundings and the bags are just left lying around in the streets. Some empty and some still full! |
