You shouldn't have to guess or remember which bin is collected each week - there is a calendar. Have you received one and have you received the correct one for your street? Aren't they downloadable from the Council website? If not - ask for them to be, You could even download one for a neighbour who does not have the internet then. You don't have to change your whole recycling pattern. There is no reason for you to stop composting your garden waste and peelings etc if you did before or to not start doing that if you want to. I believe that composters are still free in LB Hounslow and wormeries heavily discounted. The grant from WRAP is due to come to an end later this year and you may lose this benefit. You could try a green Johanna. Your rubbish and recycling depends on what you buy and what you waste. More help is available on www.recyclenow.com and many other websites. You can put your postcode in and find out what facilities are available to you and to your friends in other parts of the country. Some places are aiming for sero waste! Stopping/reducing the amount of junk mail you receive is a good start. You can keep food waste for quite a while if it is wrapped well, the food waste bin closed and it has not been left out of the fridge or in the fridge for far too long first. It is a great shame though that there does sometimes appear to be a difference in the attitude of different collection crews. This is something the Council will definitely have to sort out. You have to keep the feedback going back but also make sure that you are doing your bit in following the instructions. Good Luck - it IS worth it! |
