It would be interesting to hear what the problems the operators are having with the new system. Did they seriously underestimate the scope of the job and have been taken by surprise with the enthusiasm Hounslow residents have responded ? Or are they working with a new untrained crew who don't know what they are doing ? I was surprised to meet a recycling (green box) collection lorry still going hard at it at 6.30pm in Osterley last night. Presumably it is trying to keep up the schedule / overcome the backlog. But it must be difficult trying to maintain that level of activity day after day unless there are extra shifts rostered in or there is some end to the crisis mode in sight. I personally think it is great to see doorstep collections of plastic (though I don't know where it is going and suspect some big incinerator will be using it.) |
