Following Mr Justice Ramsey's finding that Thames Water had lacked a long-term odour management and investment strategy since 1990 and that the Company has caused an ongoing nuisance, residents are rejoicing the outcome which is expected to see the final compensation awards to residents run into the £millions. It is however time to reflect upon the fact that none of this would have happened if it hadn't been for Phil Andrews and the ICG listening seriously to residents concerns and thus initiating the campaign to improve the environment. It comes as no surprise that not a single Tory Councillor on the Council has congratulated the residents and the ICG for its mammoth victory over the Water Giants but it is surprising that not a single Labour Councillor has made any comment on this victory which has put Hounslow on the map and will set legal precedents across England. It is true that when the campaign started, the ICG invited Labour Cllrs to join and support the campaign (and the invitation was declined), and it is true that at least one Labour Cllr accused residents of running off half-cocked if they thought they could achieve anything, but I would half thought that the new generation Labour Group would at least have something to say about the victory of the ICG which has resulted in residents in both Hounslow and Richmond Boroughs receiving justice and compensation. |
