Steve The root of the problem is that corporately the local authority considers itself to be neutral in the civil action between the residents and Thames Water. This is of course preposterous, but it was precisely the mentality that we tried to change during the 2006-2010 administration. Sadly in spite of our best efforts, particularly under the excellent stewardship of Jon Hardy, we never completely managed to crack it. Obviously I'm not privy to the strategy of the current administration but from where I'm sitting the signs are not good, although it must be said that one or two individual councillors at least do seem to be trying their best. I was not impressed at all by the attitude of Entec and, skips "surprise" notwithstanding, am not in the slightest doubt that the recent consultation was little more than a box-ticking exercise. My view is that we need to try to ascertain whether the new administration has a particular objective in mind when it comes to Mogden beyond the personal abuse levelled at campaigning residents by one or two of their (possibly not officially sanctioned) spokespersons on this forum. |
