"I would have expected the Lead Member for Environment, who after all is in charge of planning, to have known this. More so still the Legal Officer who was seated at the table and who had been so keen to stress the local authority's legal obligations when it had looked like the application was going to be rejected." Indeed and lets not forget that besides the Lead member leaving the room, when she returned, she and the Chair agreed to allow the applicant to speak yet again despite the fact that the Council had received complaints/objections from Dr Steve Cummaford, Ms Sarah-Jane Gear, Mrs Mair Davison and myself all of whom would have liked to have participated and address the committee but were excluded because the Council ensured the deadline (for objectors) to request permission to speak had passed by the time the 'invitation' letters were received. Whilst it is perfectly clear that the Director of Environment and Planning runs an incompetent department, it is unforgivable that the Tory Chair and the Tory Lead Member for Environment and Planning didn't recognise the magnitude of the cock up and defer the hearing. The Councillors were in charge weren't they or are they dictated to by Council officers? |
