| This is about the use of Occupation Lane as a rat run. The lane leads to a purely residential area, but it is used to avoid the minor inconvenience of keeping to the main roads. This is not acceptable for a residential area. The ninety degrees corner at the end of the long straight is a perennial accident hotspot, with the walls and bollards at the end being knocked down on multiple occasions. The council routinely has to rebuild the bollards, and the residents have rebuilt their wall on at least two occasions. One driver was killed. The corner is also at a crossroads of footpaths, along which residents walk their kids to school. It is so obvious that this road should at the very least be access only, but the difficulty of enforcement of such a solution makes the current proposal the only practical one. Consideration should be given to Chestnut Av. This could at least be access only, with the same enforcement issues, although this road already has traffic calming measures, is obviously residential, and due to its location is less of a temptation to those inconsiderate folk who might use it to avoid the main road traffic lights. |
