Julie - it's an experimental closure in line with government guidelines. Normally we consult before making a change but we've been asked/told to go ahead with changes and in effect see how they work and what people feel about them. From what I have seen in Clayponds Avenue, the majority - at least at peak times - of traffic is people cutting out the Ealing Road/A4 junction whilst heading to or from Ealing. Most turn left at the bottom of Clayponds Avenue, putting stress on the pedestrian crossing there which is very busy in the mornings with schoolkids. Let's see how it works in practice: I'm guessing residents of Clayponds Avenue in particular will be very happy to have their road free of the pollution, congestion and danger from those who can no longer use it as a short cut, but time will tell. |
