| There's no shortage of complaints about planning in Hounslow and the environment department as a whole - some are well founded others are not (some are complaints about councillors and there is precious little officers can do about that). The department is now undergoing a thorough reorganisation and a new director has been appointed and will start in September - he'll be responsible for completing the process of renewal. I became chair of planning in May and my own experience of planning officers has been very positive: they have engaged with and welcomed changes being introduced to give local residents, amenity groups and local councillors a bigger say in planning decisions, something the Council has struggled to achieve previously or appeared to want. I hope this year will see their reputation transformed. |
