| Up to a point I agreee with Paul. I can remember a case where a colleague and I had been asked by a constituent to look at something for them and who had confirmed that with the department concerned. The assistant director point blank refused to let us see the file, so we did no more and went straight to see the Borough Solicitor, who advised the officer that he HAD to give us the information as we were elected members plus we had the person's request. We went straight back and reluctantly, very reluctantly the officer gave us what we had asked for. It just needs councillors to know that they are there to represent constitutents not be given the runaround by officers, they need to stand their ground and if they get any grief make a complaint to the Chief Executive or Borough Solicitor. |
