| Gunnersbury park was not bequeathed (as with several other parks in the vicinity) but was purchased by the Borough of Ealing and Corporation of Acton. As I understand it, The site was too expensive and was larger incorporating land north of Popes Lane. The final purchase included the sale of the land to the north and the Boundaries of the park to be defined by a perimeter of land for development - Hence the houses along Popes Lane and the Northern end of Lionel road. At some stage, development along Lionel Road was stopped and during this period the land on the left transferred to Brentford and Chiswick who used it for council housing whilst Ealing used it's surplus purchased land to build the Garden council estate north of Popes Lane. After 1965 the Boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow were formed and I'm sure that that's when the park was shared. The full correct details are I think on the Friends of Gunnersbury park website.
