I share that frustration, Paul, but the way the system works makes it very hard indeed to get affordable housing (even by the laughable criterion of 80% of market rent)included. Councillors had a presentation from an expert a few months ago and he was complimentary about LBH's approach, particularly that at Lionel Road where we deferred the question of affordable until the outcome of the 'main' development became clear. This gives less scope for developers to plead poverty (and the 'Duffy' site in Lionel Road will have affordable housing assuming the sums add up). We're hoping having a mayor who cares about this kind of thing will help, but of course we're now up against the awful Housing Act 2016 which is another huge step towards abolishing social housing. Meanwhile, affordability on the river is improving: https://www.gumtree.com/p/studios-bedsits-rent/gorgeous-narrow-boat-in-scenic-location-in-west-london/1169591586 Only £800pcm for a one bed narrow boat. Mind you, it doesn't say whether council tax and/or utilities are included. |
