'I actually hate the idea of closing in the river bank'- I agree and this is one of the first reasons why I didn't particularly like the boats which began, years ago, to appear alongside Waterman's Park. It has got more and more over the years that you can't see anything much of the river along that stretch, just a crowd of boats. I can't help but wonder whether the Council would have ever come up with the marina scheme if the boats now there hadn't have put the idea into their heads. Also, while I note that the present boat owners may have at times been of help to park users and taken part in river bed clean-ups, they have not always been good neighbours and seem to have only cleaned their act up in one way and another since the idea of the marina was mooted. (Evidence of this is that even in the otherwise quite persuasive video against the marina development, it was deemed to be fit and proper to show somebody wielding an axe to chop wood along what is the main public walk-through. Own goal or what?) Finally, is there evidence of the present boaters having been involved in local issues down the years other than those which directly concern themselves? Not saying there isn't but I'm not aware of it. |
