Yes the lead-in cycle lanes both from the north (Busch Corner) and the south (Twickenham) in to the South Street war memorial junction are both solid white lines. Today I found the cycle lane route from the north obstructed with four fallen cones and a a fallen-over keep right blue/white arrow sign. I picked them up and presume that the intention is for cyclists to use the coned off cycle lane (although it is ambiguous without more signage as to whether the cycle lane is meant to be empty with a keep right sign at its entrance). The cones closest to the junction prevented me taking the road position I would have preferred for going straight on and I think are an invitation for a straight-ahead cyclist using the lane to get "left-hooked"by an overtaking, left-turning car. The cycle lane coming from Twickenham was less obstructed (only three fallen cones) and appeared to be working well with the cones in the centre of the road preventing two lanes forming. Left hooks aren't a problem as there is no left turn ! |
