Hello, I've just registered as a member to join in on this thread! I'm calling the Council tomorrow about this and will be avoiding this junction until they've sorted out the southbound approach. Every time I've used it since the changes, I've seen a near miss where people who are used to using the right hand lane on the turn for Van Gogh Close to sneak into the main lane for Twickenham Road, realise too late that there are no longer 2 lanes and all drivers involved have to brake to a halt when reaching the roundabout. The final straw for me today was seeing a cyclist caught up in this, who had to jump his bike up onto the pavement to avoid a car that had swerved into the gutter to avoid the car on his right trying to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. There urgently needs to be some extra signs, starting from outside the recreation centre, tied to the traffic lights by Worton Road, in addition to the single sign on the new roundabout, alerting people to the new layout, highlighting that there's now only one lane and no right turn land ahead. Given the new layout, would it not make sense to put new arrow markings down on the Van Gogh/Worton Road junction so that either the right hand lane is for turning right only or, put some of those 'two lanes merge into one' arrows down so that people merge in an organised way and are travelling in one lane before they hit the roundabout? |
