Until the approach to this roundabout from the south is resurfaced and the road markings properly painted that approach is an accident waiting to happen. I'm astonished that the implementation of the roundabout has taken place without the associated carriageway works being undertaken first. Simply painting over the previous lane markings and arrow markings with black paint isn't good enough. Such markings are still visible and from a distance drivers are not immediately aware (or chose not to be aware) that those markings are no longer in force. The southern approach is now supposedly a single lane with a cycle lane but in reality drivers are still treating it as two lanes, so drivers going straight on are encroaching into the cycle lane whilst other drivers (two did precisely this when I drove home last night) wishing to turn right are flying down the outside lane (which no longer exists) forcing drivers into the cycle lane. As I said right from the start, there can be no doubt some idiots will fly down the outside lane as then try to go straight on as they did before the junction changed. In short, the southern approach is bloody dangerous. The junction should either have been left as it was or the works carried out properly and in their entirely in one go. And if anyone thinks I'm wrong, go and stand there for an hour and observe... |
