It costs nothing to stand as a candidate in local elections as long as you can find registered electors to propose and second you and the required number to sign the forms you need. So if you fancy banging the drum for any pet project you could throw your hat in the ring. There have been some spectacular successes in General Elections - such as the local doctor who stood on a platform of saving the local hospital. However, you will need to pay for your election literature and ensure you only spend the amount allowed by law. |
