Rod, I don’t mean to be arrogant, so apologies if that’s how my comments come across. I do get a little annoyed at people pretending they bought a car to be green, when they actually only bought it because it was cheaper than the alternative. Fairness of course is the way things should be done in this country, but unfortunately fairness is rare when money is involved. For instance, how fair is it that Labours spending plans were/are to be funded by increasing the higher tax rate and further saddling our children’s generation with suicidal public borrowing? Good vote winner though as only a small portion pay higher tax rate and children can’t vote. ‘Don’t worry about the cost because someone else will pay’. And how fair is it that council tax is based on the value of a home? That has no correlation to how many council services you use, or how much rubbish you might put in the bin, so it’s blindingly not-fair. Back to parking charges. Agreed it’s annoying to find you bought something that suddenly gets an extra charge applied to it, but balance that against the 38,000 people that die every year due to the NOX and particulates from diesel emissions. Bear in mind that Brentford has just about the highest level of pollution in the country, do a little bit of maths and you come up with a level of damage to you, your children and everyone you see in Brentford equivalent to smoking 10 or 15 cigarettes a day. So what’s fairer, LBH encouraging people to get rid of diesels, or diesel drivers forcing our children smoke a pack of fags every day? |
