It is grossly unfair to penalise diesel owners who bought their vehicles in good faith on gov't advice. The proposed parking levy is entirely inconsistent with the way pollution is tackled via vehicle excise duty changes. Vehicles registered between 2001 and 2017 do not pay more duty (https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/rates-for-cars-registered-on-or-after-1-march-2001). Petrol and diesel cars registered after 1 April 2017 will pay an increased amount of duty based on their CO2 emissions. Any proposed levy on parking fees by Hounslow should reflect this important distinction. |
