I'm in partly in favour of the additional charge on diesel cars BUT not to be introduced at the drop of a hat. If the council want to deter residents from buying future diesel vehicles then it's only fair that this put into practice in 4 or so years time or in line with the Mayor of London changes. It will have the same effect without penalising people who have recently brought a diesel vehicle. As people have mentioned on other posts that until recently people have being buying diesels and encouraged by government to do so. How ironic that they now turn around after encouraging the purchases of diesel cars and fine you for doing so. In my situation I have a diesel work van. You cannot buy a second hand petrol van because everybody was told to buy diesel. There are very little electric vans especially in the size I need and they don't have the range necessary for me to carry out my daily duties. There is also still a limited structure in the form of charging points in and around London. To introduce a disproportial tax at the drop of a hat against over half the motorists in the Hounslow borough using a system that is mainly designed to allow local residents access to parking nearby is simply unfair and abuse of authority. Maybe Hounslow should introduce a tax against planes spewing tonnes of raw aviation fuel and then tax themselves for supporting a third runway allowing the pollution to increase by 50%. |
