Well thanks Theo. What will you and the dear leader be introducing next ? Official haircuts ? What choice will we have, I hope a bit more choice than this trumped up cheapskate scam to take hard earned money off the residents that you and your cronies up at the civic centre purport to represent. First let's get something clear. In 2001 Gordon Brown introduced lower vehicle tax for diesel cars and encouraged people to buy them. This was about the time that local government realised that by prostituting the streets through the introduction of CPZs they could raise even more money and at the same time appeal to people's 'I want to park outside my door' mentality, even though you don't guarantee a space.( the surcharge was set at £50 because it is about the average for similar schemes, it's big enough to be noticeable without being onerous and therefore it's enough to gently remind folk that the diesel car they drive (and invariably park, Vanessa) has consequences for the environment) This is like saying a swift kick in the goolies will concentrate the mind on birth control. Don't make excuses, tell the people the truth - car drivers are there to be ripped off - and that's what you are doing. |
