"...to gently remind folk that the diesel car they drive (and invariably park, Vanessa) has consequences for the environment. " This sounds very odd and unfair. Diesel cars were considered to be more environmentally friendly for many years, it was confirmed by Labour Government by way of significantly lower taxes, encouraging people to buy diesel cars. Now - this year - it suddenly appeared that diesel cars are less environmentally friendly than petrol, and some smart bureaucrats decided that people who were loyal enough to follow the Government's lead have to pay for the mistake of the government. Is it appropriate? By the way, the air quality in London is still one of the best among European capitals. And the bureaucrats don't offer any reliable data on the impact on the full spectrum of factors contributing to air emissions - including cars, trains, HGVs, buses, Mogden sewerage, useless 20mph zones, excessive traffic lights and traffic calming hurdles... additional congestion due to the Church Str closure... |
